Tumblr Hires First Director of Media

Tumblr

Tumblr has been making a lot of changes over the past couple of years. Tumblr just announced that they have hired Sima Sistani as their first director of media. Before her new position, Sistani led the mobile growth division at Yahoo.

Tumblr is not the only social media network hiring out of Hollywood, Facebook recently hired a head of entertainment partnerships, and Twitter hired a Google employee to take on the role of director of entertainment industry sales.

Twitter is generally known as the social network for celebrities to interact with fans, but more celebrities have been creating Tumblrs in order to share news and photos with their fans. Some of these celebrities include Zooey Deschanel, Beyonce, and Kat Dennings.

The appointment of Sistani is one of the more prominent additions since Yahoo bought the blogging platform for about $1.1 billion.

Yahoo purchased Tumblr hoping it would become more of a media platform, and Hollywood is a great place to start.

“When I’m out there talking to media companies, they’re really interested in figuring out how to engage their fans on Tumblr. There’s a big range of opportunity,” Sistani stated.

While getting big people in entertainment to advertise on the social network is the goal, Sistani also wants to help companies better engage the community with their own content.

“That native response on Tumblr is to share. What that means for influencers and media companies is that they are coming into a community that will share content out to their networks. I just really want to figure out how to help be a catalyst in the process.”
