It looks like some Americans are getting tired of “The Star Spangled Banner” and would rather dance to some pop.
So far, 800 people have signed a petition to make Miley Cyrus’ song, “Party in the U.S.A.” the new national anthem. This song was very popular when it came out and has 342 million times on YouTube. It is a song singing about the American Dream and making it in Los Angeles
The petition is on the White House’s “We the People” site and reads, “Obama please make Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” our national anthem. It is what is best for this country.”
Thankfully, 99,000+ more people will have to sign the online petition before Aug. 1 before President Obama would even have to respond to the petition. I’m pretty sure we know how he would respond to this request.
In March, a similar petition was posted to make the song “Ignition (Remix)” by R. Kelly. While I don’t think “Party in the U.S.A.” should be the national anthem, I’d prefer that over a rap song.
